That this House commemorates British-Nepali climber Nirmal "Nims" Purja MBE and the 10-person international climbing team who tragically passed away in an avalanche whilst attempting to summit the world's 12th highest mountain, Broad Peak; celebrates Nims impressive achievement of being the first British-Nepali climber to complete the coveted mountaineering Grand Slam after summiting all 14 highest peaks in a record breaking 189 days, a feat which previously took other climbers years to achieve; honours his service with distinction in the Armed Forces as the first Gurkha to join the elite Royal Navy Special Boat Service; recognises his work to change the global mountaineering narrative through his advocacy for the respect, recognition and compensation of Sherpa and Nepali mountain guides and their vital but frequently overlooked work in supporting foreign climbers; and further honours his self-belief, determination and trailblazing mountaineering legacy, as inspirational for all climbers and non-climbers alike.
