That this House recognises Action Mesothelioma Day 2026, to be marked across the United Kingdom on 3 July 2026; notes that the day is held annually to raise awareness of mesothelioma and other asbestos-related diseases and to remember those who have lost their lives as a result of asbestos exposure; further notes that mesothelioma is a rare and aggressive cancer caused primarily by inhaling asbestos fibres, often many decades before symptoms appear, and that more than 2,700 people are diagnosed with the disease across the UK each year; further recognises the devastating impact of mesothelioma on patients, families and communities, particularly in areas with strong industrial, construction, manufacturing, engineering, energy and shipbuilding heritage; pays tribute to all those living with asbestos-related diseases and to those who care for and support them; acknowledges the vital work of charities, asbestos support groups, trade unions, clinicians, researchers and campaigners across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland; welcomes grassroots campaigns seeking justice for victims, including Cape Must Pay!, which calls on the former asbestos manufacturer Cape plc, now owned by Altrad, to contribute £10 million towards mesothelioma research; also notes continuing concerns regarding access to justice and fair compensation for victims; calls for further efforts to improve research, treatment and support services; further welcomes events taking place around the country to mark the day; encourages participation in the Go Blue for Meso campaign and Blue Light Walks; applauds the work of local asbestos support organisations; and hopes for a successful Action Mesothelioma Day 2026.
