Approval of teplizumab for Type 1 diabetes on the NHS
Tabled 23 June 2026 by Tom Gordon
That this House welcomes the approval of teplizumab, also known as Tzield, for use on the NHS in England and Wales as a treatment capable of delaying the onset of Type 1 diabetes by up to three years; recognises this as a landmark breakthrough for the Type 1 diabetes community, including presymptomatic adults and children aged eight and above who will now be eligible for this treatment; pays tribute to the researchers, clinicians, patient advocates and charities whose tireless work has contributed to this significant milestone; further recognises the importance of building on this momentum by establishing a national screening programme to identify those at risk of developing Type 1 diabetes at the earliest possible stage; and calls on the Government to work with the NHS, the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Diabetes and the wider diabetes community to accelerate progress on screening, early intervention and improved treatment options for all those living with or at risk of Type 1 diabetes.
