Early Day Motion 318

Reducing trade and mobility barriers between the UK and EU

Tabled 9 June 2026 by Dr Al Pinkerton

That this House notes with deep concern the growing disruption and economic harm caused by post-Brexit mobility and border arrangements between the UK and the EU; further notes that the full rollout of the EU Entry/Exit System (EES) on 10 April 2026 has intensified pressures on British travellers, touring artists, coach operators and the UK haulage sector through increased bureaucracy, delays and border friction; regrets that the Government failed to secure widespread e-gate access for British passport holders across the majority of EU Member States ahead of implementation, despite repeated assurances of progress; acknowledges that British travellers experienced significant delays, missed flights and disruption during Easter and peak travel periods; expresses concern that British musicians, performers and creative professionals continue to face restrictions under the EU’s 90-day rule, limiting touring opportunities and cultural exchange across Europe; also notes industry warnings that EES implementation and wider post-Brexit border arrangements could impose economic costs of up to £400 million on the haulage sector, placing additional strain on already fragile supply chains and increasing costs for consumers; believes that these barriers are undermining economic growth and placing British citizens and businesses at a competitive disadvantage; urges the Government to negotiate urgently with European partners to reduce unnecessary border friction, including securing expanded e-gate access for UK citizens and allowing British HGV drivers to complete biometric registration away from the border; and calls on Ministers to pursue improved UK–EU mobility and customs arrangements that support trade, tourism and cross-border economic cooperation.
