That this House notes with grave concern the proposed reforms to Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) contained within the Government’s White Paper; further notes with particular concern the proposed blanket retrospective application of ILR, which violates the fundamental British values of fairness and respect; regrets that this measure would negatively affect thousands of individuals and families who have already made significant financial and social contributions to the United Kingdom based on existing immigration rules; acknowledges the need for controlled immigration but is nevertheless concerned that these reforms to ILR risk damaging the UK’s global competitiveness and being disruptive for UK businesses; and therefore urges the Government to rule out the blanket retrospective application of new Immigration Rules.
