St Margaret of Scotland Youth Group's 50th anniversary

Tabled 21 April 2026 by Katrina Murray

That this House congratulates St Margaret of Scotland Youth Group on its 50th anniversary of faith-based charitable action; recognises that each summer more than 80 young people aged 18 to 30 volunteer their time to support sick children and their families through the Archdiocese of Glasgow’s annual pilgrimage of the sick to Lourdes; notes that all funds to support the pilgrimage are raised through the efforts of volunteers and are used to sponsor children and families to travel with the group alongside specialist staff; further notes that the group is well respected and trusted in Lourdes, having been invited to lead processions, including the torchlight procession and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament; commends the contribution of young people who share their musical talents across services and masses, enhancing and enriching the spiritual experience of pilgrims; further recognises the lasting impact that this experience has on children, their families and the volunteers themselves; and celebrates the dedication, compassion and enduring legacy of St Margaret of Scotland Youth Group over five decades.
