That this House acknowledges the positive report from His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Education (HMIE) for Glencryan School, a school exclusively for children and young people with a range and complexity of additional support needs located in Cumbernauld; recognises the school’s strong, nurturing culture and effective support for children and young people; notes that the report highlights positive relationships, an inclusive ethos and a strong commitment to wellbeing underpinning learning across the school; welcomes that across all evaluated quality indicators—Leadership of Change, Learning, Teaching and Assessment, Ensuring Wellbeing, Equality and Inclusion, and Raising Attainment and Achievement—the school was graded “good”, reflecting consistent and effective practice; commends the way in which children and young people’s voices are highly valued; praises the school’s inclusive and respectful culture, with children and young people feeling valued members of the school community; further recognises the strong emphasis placed by staff on wellbeing, rights and equality, including tailored support for learners with complex additional needs; notes that children and young people are developing important skills for later life, including communication, independence and vocational skills; further notes that, in the senior phase, young people benefit from meaningful learning pathways linked to qualifications, employability, supported employment and positive post-school destinations; welcomes the increase in the number of young people moving on successfully to further education, training and employment; and congratulates the children, teachers, support staff and wider community of Glencryan School on this positive report.
