Early Day Motion 3085

Impact of the Iran war on transport costs

Tabled 13 April 2026 by Ed Davey

That this House notes with alarm the impact of President Trump’s war with Iran on fuel prices and transport costs for people across the United Kingdom, with petrol up by 25p per litre and diesel up by 48p per litre since the war began; further notes that Government revenues from taxes on fossil fuels are significantly higher than expected due to the war; and calls on the Government to use that extra revenue to introduce an emergency transport package to help families and businesses with the cost of travel, including an immediate 10p cut in fuel duty, a reduction in the cap on bus fares to £1, a 10% cut in rail fares, a cut in VAT on public electric vehicle charging to 5%, and a review of the network costs that push up charging prices.
