Early Day Motion 3069

US sanctions against judges of the International Criminal Court

Tabled 13 April 2026 by Manuela Perteghella

That this House condemns the decision by the Trump Administration to impose sanctions on judges and officials of the International Criminal Court; notes with serious concern that these measures have included the closure of bank, credit and digital accounts and have extended to family members; considers this a deliberate attempt to intimidate those investigating allegations of war crimes, including cases involving powerful states and their allies; believes that if independent courts can be targeted in this way, the principle that no one is above the law is put at risk; further believes that such actions echo the tactics of regimes that seek to shield themselves from accountability; regrets the failure of the UK Government to speak out with sufficient clarity and force; and calls on Ministers to unequivocally defend the independence of the ICC, stand up for international law, and work with allies to ensure that those responsible for the most serious crimes are held to account wherever and whoever they are.
