Tabled 13 April 2026 by Adam Jogee
That this House celebrates the 50th anniversary of the founding of The King's Trust (formerly The Prince's Trust); acknowledges that the trust began in 1976, when His Majesty King Charles III, as His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales, having completed his duty in the Royal Navy, set about improving the lives of disadvantaged young people in all four nations of our United Kingdom; recognises that the then Prince of Wales used his Navy severance pay of £7,600 to establish pilot projects for young people including lifeguard training for young offenders, the conversion of an old cricket pavilion for inspiring musicians and grants for unemployed young people; notes that Parliament recognised this important anniversary on Tuesday 24 March 2026 in an event sponsored by the former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, the Rt Hon Baroness May of Maidenhead and the Hon Member for Newcastle-under-Lyme that was attended by members from all parties in both Houses, youth ambassadors from the King’s Trust, those who work, and have worked, at the Trust and those who have benefited from the work of the Trust over the last half century; recognises that the Trust has supported more than 1.3 million young people right across the United Kingdom to build a better future for themselves; and extends its good wishes to the King’s Trust for the next 50 years of work in communities in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales and across the Commonwealth.
