Early Day Motion 3120

College Fields in Madeley, Newcastle-under-Lyme

Tabled 13 April 2026 by Adam Jogee

That this House declares that there is continued concern in Madeley about the future of College Fields, a green space that has been used by the community for many years, as a result of the actions of Staffordshire County Council; further declares that the installation of fencing around the site has caused significant local opposition and raised questions about how decisions affecting the site are being made; notes that College Fields is an important part of community life in Madeley, providing a much loved green space for informal recreation, wellbeing and outdoor activity and therefore losing or limiting access to this field would have a real impact on local residents; welcomes that local people have been clear that they want College Fields to remain open and accessible, and that any decisions about its future must be taken transparently and with meaningful community engagement; recognises the petition, signed by more than 1000 people, presented to the House of Commons on Tuesday 24 February 2026 by the Hon. Member for Newcastle-under-Lyme; celebrates the establishment of the ‘Friends of College Fields’ group chaired by Steven Swann and the community march that took place from College Fields to the Madeley Centre on Saturday 28 March 2026 attended by many local people including the Hon. Member for Newcastle-under-Lyme; and further declares that any attempt by the leadership of Staffordshire County Council to impose changes without proper consultation risks undermining trust and damaging a valued and much loved local community asset.
