That this House conveys gratitude to Scott James Meenagh for his contribution to the armed forces and sport, a constituent of Cumbernauld and Kirkintilloch and a veteran British Army Parachute Regiment whose life changed forever when he lost both legs after stepping on an improvised explosive device in Helmand Province, Afghanistan in 2011, an incident in which one of his closest friends lost his life; notes that, following rehabilitation at Headley Court, he began utilising sport as a purpose and focus to overcome the trauma and injuries sustained while serving; further notes that, building on his early life passion for sport having played rugby with Scotland under 18s, he became captain of GB rowing team of the inaugural Invictus Games in 2014, where competing for his country in front of his family and friends provided momentum for continued sporting success, switching to biathlon, the gruelling combination of cross-country skiing and shooting, and progressing to Nordic skiing, placing second in the 2023 World Championship, and was a member of GB Paralympic team on three occasions most recently as flag bearer for Team GB at the opening ceremony at Milano Cortina 2026 Paralympic Winter Games; and wishes him every success in the future as he retires from sport at this level, and thanks him for his ongoing inspiration to many.
