Early Day Motion 3000

Conflict in Lebanon

Tabled 19 March 2026 by Calum Miller

That this House notes with grave concern the intensification of fighting in southern Lebanon, including Hezbollah’s strikes against northern Israel, IDF strikes on residential areas of Beirut, instructions from the IDF for civilians to evacuate the area south of the Zahrani River and the reported start of IDF ground operations; believes that Hezbollah is a brutal terror organisation and must be disarmed; further believes that Hezbollah's disarmament must be achieved by working with leaders in Beirut and through international organisations; affirms its support for Lebanon’s territorial sovereignty; fears gravely that fresh military action directed by Prime Minister Netanyahu’s security cabinet will only destabilise the region further; is further concerned by the displacement of Lebanese and Israeli citizens on both sides of the border; welcomes the Government's statement, together which France, Italy, Canada and Germany, calling for immediate de-escalation; and calls on the Government to go further in engaging directly with Israeli and Lebanese officials to ensure hostilities cease, with a view to respecting international borders and progressing plans for the disarming of Hezbollah.
