That this House marks the 200th anniversary of High Street Methodist Church in Lurgan, County Armagh, first opened in 1826; notes that the Methodist witness in the town stretches back to the eighteenth century, with an early Methodist chapel established in Nettleton’s Court in 1778, later replaced by a preaching house on the High Street site in 1802, before the present church building was erected to accommodate a growing congregation; recognises the church’s two centuries of faithful Christian ministry in Lurgan, including the preaching of the Gospel and the sharing of the message of salvation within the community; acknowledges the important role the church has played in the spiritual, social and charitable life of the town, supporting families, young people and those in need; pays tribute to the many ministers, lay preachers, volunteers and members of the congregation who have sustained the life and witness of the church over generations; and congratulates the congregation of High Street Methodist Church as they celebrate 200 years of worship, service and Gospel ministry in Lurgan.
