That this House recognises the vital role of nuclear power in strengthening the UK's energy security, supporting the transition to clean power, and providing stable, reliable electricity for households and businesses; welcomes the Government’s commitment to reforming the nuclear regulatory and planning system following the recommendations of the Nuclear Regulatory Taskforce; notes that the UK has historically faced some of the highest costs and longest timelines for nuclear construction among advanced economies due to complex and duplicative regulatory processes; further recognises that modern technologies, including small modular reactors and advanced modular reactors, offer significant opportunities for economic growth, export potential and the creation of high-skilled, well-paid jobs across the UK; highlights the role of nuclear investment in supporting industrial communities and strengthening domestic supply chains; and therefore calls on the Government to continue to accelerate the deployment of new nuclear capacity and ensure that the UK once again becomes a global leader in nuclear energy.
