That this House recognises the significant pressures faced by ambulance services as a result of handover delays; expresses concern at the fact that this January was the worst January ever recorded for the West Midlands Ambulance Service, with 50,070 hours lost waiting to hand patients over outside hospitals, the equivalent to taking 135 ambulances off the road each day; notes that this included 14,318 handovers of over an hour, with one handover taking 14 hours and 47 minutes; and calls for an end to overcrowded hospital emergency departments, which cause both excessive handover delays and degrading corridor care, by increasing the number of staffed hospital beds and addressing the social care crisis.
