That this House commemorates the 90th anniversary since Emperor Haile Selassie moved to Fairfield House in Bath in 1936 while in exile during the Italian occupation of East Africa; recognises the significance of Haile Selassie as the central figure in Rastafarianism; further recognises his many years campaigning against fascist dictator Benito Mussolini from his home in Bath; celebrates the legacy Haile Selassie left to Bath in gifting Fairfield House to the City, in appreciation of the warm welcome and hospitality he had received from the people of Bath; further celebrates the important contribution Fairfield House has since made to the City as both a care home and a day centre; and commends the work done by Bath Ethnic Minority Senior Citizens' Association, Age Concern, the Ethiopian Coptic Church and Rastafari church, all of whom have made use of Fairfield House over the years and contributed to the cultural fabric of Bath.
