Centenary of Portadown Male Voice Choir

That this House notes with pride the 100th anniversary in 2026 of the Portadown Male Voice Choir, formed in 1926 with origins in a mixed choir of employees from the Spence Bryson linen firm and established as one of the oldest and most respected male voice choirs in Ireland; recognises the choir’s distinguished history of performances, festivals, competitions and tours across Ireland, Great Britain and further afield, bringing joy through music and fostering cultural engagement in communities at home and abroad; acknowledges with gratitude the immense leadership and dedication of Mr Gordon Speers MBE, whose long tenure as Musical Director has helped sustain and elevate the choir’s artistic excellence; further notes the valued support of longstanding community partners including the Wilson family of Ulster Carpets, a family-owned Portadown business with deep roots in the town’s civic and cultural life, whose ongoing backing has helped the choir flourish; commends all past and present members, conductors and supporters for their commitment to choral singing and community service; and congratulates the Portadown Male Voice Choir on reaching this significant centenary milestone, wishing it continued success in enriching the musical and cultural life of Northern Ireland.
