Less Survivable Cancers Week

Tabled 12 January 2026 by Helen Maguire

That this House recognises Less Survivable Cancers Week; notes the six less survivable cancers are cancers of the brain, liver, lungs, pancreas, oesophagus and stomach; further recognises that these cancers account for 67,000 deaths every year and represent around 42% of all cancer deaths in the UK; further notes late diagnosis remains one of the main challenges for less survivable cancers with only 28% are diagnosed at stage 1 or 2; and calls for a guarantee that 100% of patients will be able to start treatment within 62 days from urgent referral and a Cancer Survival Research Act requiring the Government to coordinate and ensure funding for research into the cancers with the lowest survival rates.
