175th anniversary of the founding of Surrey Police
Tabled 12 January 2026 by Mr Will Forster
That this House notes the 175th anniversary of the founding of Surrey Constabulary, now Surrey Police; recognises that the creation of the county police force followed widespread concern about lawlessness in Surrey in the mid nineteenth century, including the murder of the Reverend George Hollest in Frimley in 1850; acknowledges the role that early policing played in bringing together fragmented local forces to improve public safety across Surrey; commends the dedication and professionalism of generations of police officers and staff who have served Surrey over the past 175 years; and pays tribute to all those who continue to serve their communities today by upholding the principles on which Surrey Police was founded, for the protection of the public and the pursuit of justice in Surrey.
